DOE Bioenergy Technologies Office launches projects map

The U.S. DOE Bioenergy Technologies Office announced the launch of its Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Projects Map, an interactive map depicting all of BETO’s recent projects throughout the U.S. that are competitively awarded through the SBIR program. SBIR grants are awarded for the development of new ideas and innovative research, focusing on areas where small businesses can have an impact, including the biomass industry. The SBIR program is part of a larger effort overseen by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

BETO is focused on forming partnerships with key stakeholders to develop technologies for advanced biofuels production from lignocellulosic and algal biomass. The topics of the annual SBIR solicitation vary from year to year; however, previous topics have included feedstock logistics, bio-oil conversion technology, waste to energy, and process intensification. More information about topics and the schedule of the solicitation are available on EERE’s SBIR website. Applicants to the SBIR program are encouraged to be consistent with and have performance metrics linked to BETO’s Multi-Year Program Plan. 

To view the SBIR projects BETO has awarded, users can filter the SBIR Projects Map results by year, state, SBIR phase, and program area, or search the entries by keyword. The dollar amount of each award and its start and end dates are available as well. The table below the map automatically shows the filtered results, or users can browse all of the SBIR awardees alphabetically by name of the institution or its location. Bioenergy SBIR program awardees are categorized according to BETO’s program areas, which include Advanced Algal Systems Research and Development, Feedstock Supply and Logistics research and development, and Waste to Energy. 

EERE’s SBIR program is aligned with the federal Small Business Administration SBIR program and with EERE’s mission to lead DOE efforts to develop and deliver market-driven solutions for energy-saving homes, buildings, and manufacturing; sustainable transportation; and renewable electricity generation.
