Spain-based Ence Energía y Celulosa S.A. has announced Gestamp Biomass Solutions will construct the boiler for its new 40 MW biomass power plant that is under development in Huelva, a city in southwest Spain.

According Ence, its contract with GBS represents an investment of more than €15 million ($18.56 million). The investment will cover supply, installation and commissioning of the boiler.

Ence is expected to spend approximately €80 million to complete the new biomass plant project.

In December, SENER signed a contract with Ence to design, supply, build and commission the plant, as well as operate and maintain it during the first years of operation.

At that time, SENER said the facility will take in biomass from the forestry and farming industries as feedstock. Due to the variety of types of biomass to be used as fuel, SENER said the plant will be equipped with an advanced fuel handling system. The plant will also include gas combustion and treatment systems.

The project is currently expected to begin operations during the third quarter of 2019.
