EPA: 37.05 million cellulosic RINs generated in June

More than 1.67 billion renewable identification numbers (RINs), including 37.05 million cellulosic RINs, were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in June, according to new data released by the U.S. EPA. RIN generation for the first half of the year reached nearly 9.64 billion.

Nearly 36.95 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in June, including 29.93 million generated for compressed renewable natural gas (RNG) by domestic producers, 3.72 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 2.08 million generated for liquefied RNG by importers, 1.04 million generated for compressed RNG by importers and 175,766 generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers.

Total D3 RIN generation for the first half of the year reached 166.09 million, including 125.05 million generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers, 19.12 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 10.07 million generated for liquefied RNG by importers, 4.61 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, 1.26 million generated for cellulosic ethanol by importers and 2.98 million generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers.

According to EPA data, 107,473 D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in June, all for cellulosic heating oil by importers. For the first six months of the year, 1.28 million D7 RINs were generated, all for cellulosic heating oil by importers.

More than 32.95 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in June, including 24.46 million generated for ethanol by importers, 3.83 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 2.61 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 1.97 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 78,603 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, and 9,053 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.

Total D5 RIN generation for the first six months of the year reached 108.16 million. This includes 44.39 million generated for ethanol by importers, 28.77 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 18.57 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 12.28 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 2.08 million generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, 2.01 million generated for LPG by domestic producers, and 67,289 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.

More than 1.24 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in June, including 1.23 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 11.97 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, and 1.19 million generated for ethanol by importers.

According to the EPA, D6 RIN generation for the first half of the year reached 7.36 billion. This includes 7.25 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 106.05 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 6.25 million generated for ethanol by importers and 16,767 generated for biodiesel by domestic producers.

Nearly 357.04 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in June, including 215.42 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 63.38 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 48.8 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 29.08 million generated for biodiesel by importers and 357,247 generated for domestic jet fuel by domestic producers.

More than 2 billion D4 RINs were generate during the first half of the year, including 1.26 billion generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 363.61 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 237.2 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 137.1 million generated for biodiesel by importers, 2.06 million generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers and 7,704 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers.
