Covanta purchases biomass-to-energy plants
Covanta Holding Corp. has agreed to purchase two biomass-to-energy facilities in West Enfield and Jonesboro, Maine, from co-owners Ridgewood Maine LLC and Indeck Energy Services Inc. The nearly identical facilities will add 49 annual megawatts to Fairfield, N.J.-based Covanta's renewable energy portfolio, which currently includes six biomass facilities and 38 energy-from-waste facilities in North America, Europe and Asia. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year, pending regulatory and shareholder approval.
