By Erin Voegele | November 21, 2011

The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center has announced the addition of several new scientists, including one that will head up the center’s Enterprise Rent-A-Car Institute for Renewable Fuels. Thomas Brutnell will join the center in January, serving as the new director for the ERAC Institute for Renewable Fuels.

“I’m really excited to be moving to the Danforth Center as it is an excellent opportunity to expand the research at the Danforth Center into new and challenging areas,” says Brutnell. “I am very much aligned with the mission of the center and will be striving for global food and energy security through improved crop varieties and new bioenergy grasses. We will tap technological breakthroughs in DNA sequencing technology and computational biology to drive discovery and innovation that will contribute to achieving energy security both here and abroad.”

Additional new hires include Todd Mockler, DDPSC associate member; James Umen, ERAC Institute for Renewable Fuels associate member; Leslie Hicks, DDPSC assistant member; and Dmitri Nusinow, DDPSC assistant member.
