D5 RINs for biogas, renewable diesel generated in January

By Erin Voegele | April 02, 2013

The U.S. EPA recently published data on renewable identification numbers (RINs) generated under the renewable fuel standard (RFS) during January 2013. While no cellulosic biofuel or cellulosic diesel RINs were produced in January, 44.7 million advanced biofuel (D5) RINs were generated during the month, representing 44.42 million gallons of fuel.

Non-ester renewable diesel accounted for 684,311 of those RINs with an equivalence value (EV) of 1.7, representing 402,535 gallons of fuel on a volume basis. An additional of 69 RINs for non-ester renewable diesel with an EV of 1.6 were generated, equating to 43 gallons of fuel by volume.

An additional 361,346 D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated for biogas production for January. Biogas on a volume basis was also 361,346 equivalent gallons.

According to data published by the EPA, more than 2.77 million assigned D5 advanced biofuel RINs are available. An additional 41.93 million separated D5 RINs are available. No cellulosic biofuel (D3) or cellulosic diesel (D7) are listed as being available at this time.
