Mapping Out the Biomass Power Market
Posted: February 19, 2010 at 10:19 AM CST
Now that things have calmed down somewhat after the flurry of biofuels news that hit my desk the past couple of weeks, I can concentrate on our next project: the biomass-based power map.
Biomass Magazine subscribers may remember receiving the Fall 2009 Biomass Power & Gas Production Map. Although the map was popular, we decided to make a few changes. This year’s Spring 2010 U.S. Biomass Power Map will identify proposed, under construction and operational dedicated power plants—1 MW or greater—utilizing, or proposing to utilize, solid biomass fuel (wood processing and forestry residues, construction and demolition waste, municipal solid waste, ag residues and dedicated energy crops).
If you are involved with or know of any plants that fit this criteria contact me at rjohnson@bbiinternational.com or (701) 738-4940. I will need your name and contact information, the name of the facility, the city and state, size in megawatts, feedstock and the conversion technology. If all goes well, the map will also identify facilities that are cofiring biomass with coal, employing combined heat and power, and participating in the USDA-Farm Service Agency’s Biomass Crop Assistance Program.
The information that will be available on this map may change subtly as we get more into the project, but I think you get the idea by looking at our initial criteria.
Our goal is to develop other maps that may be of interest to subscribers and advertisers in the future.
