Tolko, Pinnacle to proceed with pellet plant construction

Construction of a proposed pellet plant at Tolko's Lavington mill will begin later this month, Tolko Industries Ltd. and Pinnacle Renewable Energy have announced. The pellet plant is expected to be operational by September.

Pellet plant starts production in Siberia

A new pellet plant in the Eastern-Siberian part of Russia constructed and started up by Hekotek in November has now successfully reached the designed output capacity of 30,000 tons of wooden pellets annually.

The USDA Rural Business-Cooperative Service has published a notice in the Federal Register announcing it is accepting applications for the Rural Energy for America Program. A final rule for REAP was published in late 2014.

A report recently filed with the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service Global Information Network highlights a pending biomass sustainability proposal in the Netherlands. The Dutch government is scheduled to discuss the proposal on Jan. 15.

Comment period open for Utah proposed seasonal wood burn ban

The Utah Department of Environmental Quality has opened a 40-day comment period on for a proposed seasonal wood burn ban amendment that would prohibit seven counties from solid-fuel burning in all solid-fuel burning devices from Nov. 1 to March 15.

Colorado lawmakers introduce biomass, energy bills

Several energy-related bills were introduced in the Colorado Senate in early January, including one that aims to create a five-year incentive program to promote the use of woody biomass in public buildings.
