The New Hampshire Senate has voted in favor of a bill amendment that aims to support operations at the state’s six biomass power plants and avoid a protracted legal fight over a biomass reform law that was enacted in 2018.

Graanul Invest submits winning bid for Texas pellets assets


An affiliate of Graanul Invest submitted the winning bid in the auction conducted on May 9 for the assets of Texas Pellets Inc. and German Pellets Texas LLC. The assets include a pellet plant in Woodville, Texas, and a port terminal in Port Arthur.

Bill allows fuel made from federal biomass to qualify under RFS


Sens. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., introduced bipartisan legislation May 22 that aims to allow biomass from certain federal lands that are in need of ecological restoration to be used to make biofuels eligible for RFS compliance.

SkyNRG to develop Europe’s first dedicated biojet fuel plant


SkyNRG announced May 27 it will develop Europe’s first dedicated sustainable aviation fuel production plant in Delfzijl, The Netherlands. The facility is being scaled to produce 100,000 metric tons of biojet fuel and 15,000 tons of bioLPG per year.

Bill would increase SRE transparency, reallocate waived volumes

EPA: 33.68 million cellulosic RINs generated in April


The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for April, reporting that more than 1.69 billion RINs were generated during the month, including more than 33.68 million cellulosic RINs.

Thermochemical pulp biorefinery opens in Ontario


FPInnovations and Resolute Forest Products Inc. announced May 27 the commissioning of a new pilot biorefinery that converts wood biomass into lignin and sugars. On the same day, the Canadian government awarded C$2 million to the project.

UPS purchases 170 million gallons of RNG from Clean Energy Fuels


UPS has announced an agreement with Clean Energy Fuels Corp. to purchase 170 million gallon equivalents of renewable natural gas (RNG) through 2026. This is the largest commitment for use of RNG to date by any company in the U.S., according to UPS.
