The U.S. EPA has announced plans to hold a public hearing July 31 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, on its proposed rule to set 2020 renewable volume obligations (RVOs) and the 2021 RVO for biomass-based diesel under the Renewable Fuel Standard.

Pinnacle to build pellet plant in Alberta, signs 2 new contracts


Pinnacle Renewable Energy announced plans in early July to build a new pellet plant in Alberta. Later in the month, the company said it has entered into two new long-term, take-or-pay off-take contracts with customers in Japan and South Korea.

Mississippi DEQ approves permit for Enviva’s Lucedale plant


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality Permit Board has approved Enviva’s permit to begin construction on its Lucedale wood pellet plant. Enviva Chairman and CEO John Keppler thanked the community of Lucedale for its support.

FERC: Up to 624 MW in bioenergy editions proposed by June 2022


Data released by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission July 5 shows that the U.S. could add up to 61 biomass generation units with a combined capacity of 624 MW by June 2022. The U.S. currently has 16.04 GW of bioenergy capacity in place.

Bill provides tax incentives for investments in biogas projects


Reps. Ron Kind, D-Wisc., and Tom Reed, R-N.Y., reintroduced the Agricultural Environmental Stewardship Act on July 12. The bill aims to provide tax incentives for farmers and rural electric cooperatives who invest in biogas technology.

IRENA recently released the sixth edition of it Renewable Energy and Jobs report, announcing the renewable energy sector employed at least 11 million people last year, directly and indirectly. Bioenergy employed approximately 3.18 million people.

New York bioenergy plant to be dismantled


An announcement issued by Lewis County, New York, indicates ReEnergy’s 22-megawatt (MW) Lyonsdale Biomass energy facility will be dismantled this summer, with the 46-acre property then transferred to the Lewis County IDA.
