Bill aims to extend tax credits for biomass, other renewables


Reps. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., and Scott Peters, D-Calif., introduced a bill Aug. 13 that aims to extend tax credits for investments in qualified renewable energy production, including closed-loop biomass, open-loop biomass, and municipal solid waste.

Dominion Energy, Smithfield Foods break ground on RNG project


Dominion Energy and Smithfield Foods Inc. are breaking ground on a renewable natural gas (RNG) project in North Carolina through their joint venture, Align Renewable Natural Gas. The project will generate enough energy to power more than 3,500 homes.

EPA: 1.8 billion RINS generated in July


The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for July, reporting that nearly 1.8 billion RINs were generated during the month, including 38.92 million cellulosic RINs.

Report: Canadian wood pellet production, exports up in 2019


A report recently filed with the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service’s Global Agricultural Information Network predicts Canadian wood pellet production will increase this year. Domestic use and exports are also expected to be up.

EIA: Densified biomass fuel sales reach 640,000 tons in April


The U.S. Energy Information Administration recently released data showing U.S. manufacturers produced approximately 770,000 tons of densified biomass fuel in April, with sales reaching 640,000 tons.

EPA: 2 additional SREs filed for compliance year 2018


The U.S. EPA updated its online dashboard containing small refinery exemption (SRE) data Aug. 15, showing that two more SRE petitions have been filed for compliance year 2018. Both petitions are currently pending.

Governors ask EPA to clarify biogenic CO2 not regulated under CCA


Governors representing Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Nebraska and North Dakota recently sent a letter to U.S. EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler urging the agency to clarify biogenic CO2 is not a pollutant subject to regulation under the Clean Air Act.

Bioenergy DevCo announced Aug. 8 it has received a $106 million investment from Newlight Partners LP to grow anaerobic digestion (AD) technology in North America. The following day, the company announced the acquisition of BTS Biogas.
