Drax aims to become carbon negative by 2030


Drax group plc CEO Will Gardiner has announced the U.K. energy company plans to be carbon negative by 2030. Gardiner made the announcement on Dec. 10 at the Power Past Coal Alliance event at COP 25 in Madrid, Spain.

EPA delivers final rule containing 2020 RVOs, SRE plan to OMB


The EPA delivered a final rule regarding the RFS to the White House OMB on Dec. 6. The final rule includes the 2020 RFS RVOs, the 2021 RVO for biomass-based diesel, and and the agency’s plan to address future SREs.

EIA: Densified biomass fuel sales reach 900,000 tons in August


The EIA recently released data showing U.S. manufactures produced 820,000 tons of densified biomass fuel in August, with sales reaching 900,000 tons. Production included 195,382 tons of heating pellets and 625,896 tons of utility pellets.

Mitsubishi plans biomass conversion of Japanese power plant


Mitsubishi Corp. on Dec. 4 announced plans to convert the Suzukawa Energy Center Ltd. to biomass. The 112-megawatt facility is currently fired with coal. The plant is expected to begin producing renewable energy from wood pellets in April 2022.

US Gain to purchase RNG from Brightmark Energy


U.S. Gain announced Dec. 3 it has reached an agreement to purchase dairy-based RNG from Brightmark Energy, which earlier this year announced its investment in biogas projects at dairy farms in Wisconsin, Washington and New York.

Iogen Corp. has spoken out to congradulate Threemile Canyon Farms and Equilibrium for the successful opening and operation of their RNG project near Boardman, Oregon, that processes manure from 33,000 dairy cows.

E.ON to construct biomass power plant at UPM site in Hürth


E.ON is planning to build a biomass power plant on a paper mill site provided by UPM in Hürth. The new plant is designed for an electrical output of 20 megawatts (MW) and a thermal firing capacity of 87 MW.
