GM powers Canadian facility with landfill gas


General Motors Canada and partners announced the completion of a $28 million cogeneration investment at the GM St. Catharines Propulsion plant. The 6.4 MW project uses renewable landfill gas to generate electricity and thermal energy.

Effingham Pellets to launch operations in South Carolina


Effingham Pellets LLC, a subsidiary of Charles Ingram Lumber Co., on Aug. 20 announced plans to establish operations in Florence County, South Carolina. The company's $5.4 million investment in the project is expected to create 10 new jobs.

Fortistar, Paloma Dairy begin construction on RNG facility


Fortistar and Paloma Dairy on Aug. 31 announced the beginning of construction on a dairy digester RNG facility in Gila Bend, Arizona. The Sunoma Renewable Biofuel Project will produce 1.6 million gasoline gallon equivalents of vehicle fuel annually.

Alabama grant supports infrastructure improvement for Enviva


Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $750,000 grant to help create 85 new jobs and increase commerce in Sumter County and the state’s Black Belt region. The funds will be used improve infrastructure necessary for Enviva's wood pellet plant in Epes.

Tokyo Gas to acquire 2 pellet-fueled power plants in Japan


Tokyo Gas Co. Ltd. announced on Aug. 26 that its wholly owned subsidiary, Prominet Power Co. Ltd., plans to acquire two wood pellet-fired power plants from an Equis Group investment fund. The transaction is scheduled to close in mid-September.

EPA: 1.62 billion RINs generated in July


The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) data for July, reporting that 1.62 billion RINs were generated during the month under the Renewable Fuel Standard, up from 1.51 billion RINs generated in June.
