Saxlund to supply biomass combustion solution to Sweden sawmill

BioEnergy and materials handling firm Saxlund International, part of the Opcon energy and environmental group, has won a major contract to provide fuel handling and biomass combustion technology to Hilmer Anderson, a leading privately owned sawmill in Sweden.

With an order value of 28 million SEK, approximately £2.3 million ($3.6 million), and commissioning due in 2015, the solution includes Saxlund’s robust fuel handling systems and leading combustion technology in combination with a 12MW hot-water boiler. The plant will deliver hot water and process heat to the timber kilns from the combustion of waste wood including sawdust, wood chips and bark.

“This is an important order for Saxlund and evidence of our standing as a quality supplier to demanding biomass energy customers in Sweden and abroad,” explained Matt Drew, managing
director of Saxlund International in the U.K. “It is also an excellent example of industrial process heat demand being supplied by renewable biomass energy.”

“This project utilizes low value fuel to provide the client with a sustainable and reliable source of heat and the same technology is applicable to a wide range of users including wood processing and sawmills, the brewery sector and other manufacturing industries requiring low cost heat and power.”

Saxlund is seeing mounting interest for modern biomass solutions particularly those requiring difficult to handle fuel sources like waste wood and solid recovered fuel (SRF). In the U.K. government incentives, such as the Renewable Heat Incentive make these solutions doubly attractive.
