EPA November RIN data shows increased cellulosic production
The U.S. EPA has published renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for October, reporting that more than 1.4 billion RINs were generated during the month across all five categories.
Nearly 7.05 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in October, bringing the total for the first 10 months of the year to 18.15 RINs. Nearly 7.87 million of those RINs have been generated for renewable compressed natural gas, with 9.8 million generated for renewable liquefied natural gas, 444,107 generated for cellulosic ethanol and 44,168 generated for cellulosic gasoline. All D3 RINs generated during the first 10 months of the year were generated by domestic producers.
According to the EPA, 24,030 D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in October, bringing the year-to-date total to 54,308. EPA data indicates 50,446 of those D7 RINs have been generated for cellulosic heating oil, with 8,859 generated for cellulosic diesel. Approximately 8,859 D7 RINs were generated by domestic producers, with the remaining 50,446 generated by importers.
More than 6.46 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in October, bringing the total for the first 10 months of the year to 125.72 million. Most, 79.5 million, have been generated for ethanol, with 20.35 million generated for biogas, 13.53 million generated for naptha, and 16,162 generated for heating oil. An additional 12.4 million were generated for non-ester renewable diesel. To date, 68.08 million D5 RINs have been generated by domestic producers, with 57.72 million generated by importers.
More than 1.16 billion D6 renewable fuels RINs were generated in October, bringing the total for the first 10 months of 2014 to nearly 11.85 billion. The majority, 11.6 billion, were generated for ethanol, with 58.01 million generated for biodiesel and 197.07 generated for non-ester renewable diesel. Approximately 11.6 billion have been generated by domestic producers, with 56.71 million generated by importers and 197.07 million generated by foreign producers.
According to the EPA, 228.1 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in October, bringing the year-to-date total to nearly 2.15 billion. Nearly 1.7 billion D4 RINs were generated for biodiesel, with 455.93 million generated for non-ester renewable diesel. Nearly 1.75 billion were generated domestically, with 140.47 million generated by importers and 255.76 million generated by foreign entities.
The EPA indicates 14.15 billion RINs have been generated so far this year, with nearly 455.93 million retired. Approximately 429.01 million RINS are currently locked and available, with nearly 13.27 billion unlocked and available.
