Goteborg Energi's demonstration plant begins operations
GoBiGas, the world’s first demonstration plant for large-scale production of biogas through the gasification of forest residues, is now in full operation. The biogas has been supplied to the Swedish natural grid since mid-December.
“After intensive work with the commissioning of the plant over the past year, we have not reached an important milestone,” said Freddy Tengberg, project manager.
The biogas now going into the grid fulfils by far the quality demands with a methane content of over 95 percent.
“With continued hard work we shall now show that the plant can operate around the clock and throughout the year. In addition, we are expanding the fuel handling to gain flexibility in our requirements for raw materials for the plant,” Tengberg said.
The plant, which is the first in the world to combine large-scale gasification with methanation, has the capacity to supply about 15,000 cars or 400 buses a year with biofuels.
