Biogest builds fifth gas-to-grid biogas plant in the UK

By Biogest | June 16, 2017

Biogest recently received another contract for the construction of a gas-to-grid biogas plant in the U.K. The plant has an output of 1,400 standard cubic meters of biogas per hour, which corresponds to a thermal output of approximately 7 MW. The plant operates with agricultural waste and energy crops.

The generated biogas in the plant is fed in after treatment mostly into the gas network as biomethane and is converted into electricity and heat for a smaller part in the CHP. Thus, the plant can supply approximately 4,000 households with gas. The thermal energy is used for a pasteurization plant.

The biogas plant is carried out in the tried and tested Biogest PowerRing technology, which has advantages regarding the energy efficiency and operational safety as well as the space-saving modular design.

A further order intake was also achieved in the service sector. The ongoing technical and biological support is being carried out additionally for an agricultural biogas plant in the near of Manchester now. This Biogest PowerCompact biogas plant has an electrical output of 124 kW and can supply about 370 households with electricity via the grid. The plant is operated exclusively with the existing manure, which is available after the treatment process in the biogas plant as a high-quality ecological fertilizer.

A total of nine PowerCompact biogas plants were installed in the U.K., with four of them operating in the own plant operations business unit. In this segment, the biogas plants are not only built by Biogest but also run jointly with the agricultural partners and the shares are held over the long term.
