BPA welcomes new members Granite Shore Power, Veolia

Biomass Power Association today announced that Granite Shore Power, the owner of the biomass power facility Schiller Station in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, has joined the Association as a new member. Granite Shore Power joins the association along with Veolia, a multinational firm with expertise in energy operations, technology and engineering.

“We are thrilled to welcome Granite Shore Power and Veolia as Biomass Power Association’s newest members,” said Carrie Annand, executive director of Biomass Power Association. “Biomass is an important source of clean power in New Hampshire, where the Schiller Station provides electricity to tens of thousands of homes and businesses, as well as supports the forestry industry.  Veolia is an internationally recognized provider of energy equipment and technology that serves many of our existing members. The biomass power industry is strongest when we work together to achieve policy outcomes, and counting Granite Shore Power and Veolia among our members will be a huge asset.”

Schiller Generation Station is located on approximately 81 acres along the western banks of the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, adjacent to Newington Station. Schiller Station has two, dual fuel units capable of firing coal or fuel oil, a fuel oil fired combustion turbine, and a 50 MW biomass boiler combining for a total output of 155 MW (winter capacity). The units serve mainly as peaking resources for the grid, with the exception of the biomass boiler, which operates as a baseload unit, producing renewable energy around the clock and providing vital grid stabilization energy for the New Hampshire Seacoast.

Veolia’s mission is to resource the world, helping customers address their environmental and sustainability challenges in energy, water and waste. This means improving clients’ energy efficiency, better managing their water and wastewater, and recovering resources from their wastes. Biomass plays a big role in sustainability for Veolia, which owns and operates facilities around the world.
