USDA: US wood pellet exports top 500,000 metric tons in February

The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service released updated export data on April 17, reporting that wood pellet exports reached 501,563.9 metric tons in February, up from both the previous month and February 2018.

During the month, the U.S exported wood pellets to approximately 20 countries. The U.K. was the top destination with 348,843.7 metric tons, followed by Denmark with 64,358.8 metric tons, the Netherlands with 58,602.4 million metric tons, Belgium-Luxembourg with 16,008 metric tons and the French West Indies with 8,407.8 metric tons. Exports to Japan were at 24.1 metric tons.

February’s exports of 501,563.9 metric tons were up significantly from the 386,778.7 metric tons of wood pellets exported in January, and up from the 476,303.6 metric tons exported in February 2018.

The USDA’s data shows the value of February’s wood pellet exports reached $63.73 million, up from $53.92 million in January and up from $63.45 million in February 2018.
