DOE seeks nominations for biomass R&D advisory committee

The U.S. Department of Energy is seeking nominations for candidates to fill vacancies on its Biomass Research and Development Technical Advisory Committee.

The committee advises DOE and the USDA on issues related to the Biomass R&D Initiative and certain technical biomass research and development needs. It also makes written recommendations to the biomass research and development board.

The committee meets quarterly, with typical meetings lasting two days. Committee members may serve two, three-year terms. The committee must include an individual affiliated with the biofuels industry; an individual affiliated with the biobased industrial and commercial products industry; an individual affiliated with an institution of higher education that has expertise in biofuels and biobased products; two prominent engineers or scientists from government (non-federal) or academia that have expertise in biofuels and biobased products; an individual affiliated with a commodity trade association; two individuals affiliated with environmental or conservation organizations; an individual associated with state government who has expertise in biofuels and biobased products; an individual with expertise in energy and environmental analysis; an individual with expertise in the economics of biofuels and biobased products; an individual with expertise in agricultural economics; an individual with expertise in plant biology and biomass feedstock development; an individual with expertise in agronomy, crop science, or soil science; and an individual with expertise in carbon dioxide capture, utilization, and sequestration. Other members may also be appointed to the committee.

Specific nominations needed this year include two prominent engineers or scientists from government (non-federal) or academia that have expertise in biofuels and biobased products; an individual with expertise in agronomy, crop science, or soil science; and an individual with expertise in carbon dioxide capture, utilization, and sequestration. According to the DOE, nominations for other categories will also be accepted.
