RINs for cellulosic diesel and biogas generated in March

The U.S. EPA has published data on renewable identification numbers (RINs) generated in March. While no D3 cellulosic RINs were generated during the month, 8,332 D7 cellulosic diesel RINs representing 4,901 gallons of fuel were generated. The D7 RINs are the first cellulosic RINs generated in 2013.

Nearly 48.34 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were also generated in March, along with 195.47 D4 biomass-based diesel RINs and 1.03 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs.

During the first three months of 2013, nearly 1.25 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated for biogas production. Approximately 361,535 D5 RINs for biogas were generated in January, with an additional 361,346 D5 biogas RINs generated in February. It seems that the production of biogas transportation fuel increased in March, with approximately 526,641 D5 advanced biofuel RINs generated for biogas. In addition, nearly 20.33 million D5 RINs were generated for non-ester renewable diesel during the first three months of the year.

According to the EPA, approximately 6.73 million assigned D5 RINs and 116.81 million separated D5 RINs were available at the end of March. All 8,332 D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were listed as assigned and available as of the close of the month.
