API challenges 2013 RFS cellulosic volume requirement The American Petroleum Institute has filed a lawsuit challenging the U.S. EPA's 2013 volume requirement under the renewable fuel standard (RFS), which was finalized in August. University of Arizona leads $8 million algae research effort The UA is the lead institution for the Regional Algal Feedstock Testbed, partnership, which was recently awarded $8 million over four years by the U.S. DOE to research how algae can be grown year-round outdoors in open ponds in different climates. Commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol refinery opens in Italy Beta Renewable and Novozymes today marked the official opening in Northern Italy of the world's largest advanced biofuels facility.
