Supreme Court's review of EPA authority may affect biomass The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to review whether or not the Clean Air Act granted the U.S. EPA authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from large, stationary sources, including biomass power plants, as it did for automobiles. 	Leidos to assume ownership of Connecticut biomass plant Leidos Holdings Inc. has announced plans to assume ownership of the 37.5 megawatt (MW) Plainfield Renewable Energy biomass project under development in Plainfield, Conn. Penn State Extension offers biomass short course in November Penn State Extension has announced plans to host a two-day short course on next generation biomass conversion in Philadelphia Nov. 11-12. FERC reports new biomass power capacity came online in September The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's Office of Energy Projects has published its Energy Infrastructure Update for September 2013, reporting that three biomass-fired power generation units were brought into service during the month. Fire does little damage to MFA Oil Biomass pellet facility in Mo. MFA Oil Biomass LLC's pellet production and storage facility was closed on Sunday, Oct. 13, when neighbors noticed smoke and called the fire department. While the final report is not complete, lightning is the suspected cause of the fire. READ MORE SHARE
Iowa State building research, development program for bioplastics Iowa State University researchers are taking part in a five-year study of the production and performance of different kinds of bioplastic pots. The study is supported by a $1.94 million grant from the USDA. READ MORE SHARE

Biogas project at Israeli wastewater plant to use 8 GE engines An anaerobic digestion project underway at the largest wastewater treatment plant in Israel will use eight 1.4 megawatt (MW) ecomagination-qualified General Electric Jenbaucher engines to produce 11.2 MW of heat and power. Hawaiian utility gains PUC approval for biofuel contract The State Energy Office of Hawaii recently announced that the Hawaiian Public Utilities Commission has approved a new fuel contract between Hawaiian Electric Co. ERB to construct cogeneration project at Brazilian ethanol plant Energias Renovaveis do Brasil has signed a contract to construct a cogeneration facility to produce power and steam from sugarcane bagasse biomass at an ethanol plant owned by SVAA, a joint venture of Dow Chemical and Mitsui & Co. Chempolis, ONGC partner on cellulosic fuel, chemical production Chempolis Ltd., a Finland-based biorefining technology corporation, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with ONGC, India's leading oil and gas exploration company for the development of a biorefinery project. READ MORE SHARE
Alstom to supply GRT turbine to biomass project in Ireland Alstom has announced it signed a contract with Durmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S to design and supply an 18 megawatt (MW) geared reaction steam turbine (GRT) for a 15.8 MW biomass plant under development in Northern Ireland. Tire company completes guayule-to-rubber research farm Bridgestone Americas Inc. announced the completion of the Agro Operations Guayule Research Farm in Eloy, Ariz.
