UK biomass power sets new quarterly record In the U.K., the latest Electrical Insights Report, produced by researchers at Imperial College London in collaboration with Drax, shows biomass generation hit a new high of 4.4 TWh during the first quarter of this year. READ MORE SHARE
Trump’s proposed budget includes cuts to EPA, DOE and USDA President Donald Trump has released his proposed budget for fiscal year (FY) 2018, which includes $3.6 trillion in cuts. According to the White House, the reductions are the most proposed by any president. READ MORE SHARE
	Renewable energy jobs push 10 million globally The renewable energy industry directly and indirectly employed 9.8 million people worldwide in 2016, an increase of 1.1 percent over the previous year, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency’s newly released annual jobs report. EPA to reconsider rules to reduce methane emissions at landfills On May 23, the U.S. EPA announced a 90-day administrative stay of two final rules announced in mid-2016 that aim to reduce methane emissions from MSW landfills. The stay will allow the agency to reconsider certain aspects of these regulations. READ MORE SHARE
Lignetics acquires the Marth Companies Lignetics Inc. recently announced the acquisition of the Marth Companies LLC, which includes manufacturing plants in Marathon, Athens, and Peshtigo, Wisconsin, as well as the Marth Transportation trucking assets. READ MORE SHARE
New York announces plan to reduce methane emissions On May 17, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a methane reduction plan that, in part, supports energy production from biogas at farms and landfills across the state. EPA: 1.79 billion RINs generated in April The U.S. EPA has published renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for April, reporting that nearly 1.79 billion RINs were generated during the month, including more than 17.29 million cellulosic RINs. READ MORE SHARE
California dairy digester program open for applications The California Department of Food and Agriculture is accepting applications for project funding through its Dairy Digester Research and Development Program, which has enabled construction of numerous California digester energy projects. USDA funding supports AD research at Clarkson University U.S. Sens. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., recently announced $500,000 in new federal funding for Clarkson University. Researchers use waste lignin to make carbon fiber Texas A&M AgriLife Research scientists are converting waste lignin into carbon fiber and other products. UMaine converts biomass to fuels, chemicals at pilot plant A pilot plant capable of processing up to 1 ton of woody biomass per day into chemicals that can be used to manufacture bioproducts will be demonstrated in 100 hours of continuous operation at the University of Maine’s Technology Research Center. Gevo’s isobutanol cleared for use in on-road vehicles in Arizona Gevo Inc. recently announced that a bill signed by Arizona Gov. Dalhousie University to update biomass energy plant Nova Scotia-based Dalhousie University has announced plans to update its 30-year old biomass energy plant and steam distribution system. The $24.2 million project is expected to be complete by May 2018. READ MORE SHARE
