FERC: US adds 50 MW of biomass capacity in May The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s Office of Energy Projects has released its Energy Infrastructure Update for May, reporting that the U.S. added 50 MW of biomass power capacity during the month. READ MORE SHARE
EPA provides data on 2016, 2017 RFS waivers in letter to Grassley The U.S. EPA has issued a letter to Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, confirming it granted 19 out of 20 small refinery hardship waivers under the RFS for compliance year 2016. An additional 29 of 33 petitions have also been granted so far for 2017. READ MORE SHARE
	EPA posts call-in number for July 18 hearing on RFS proposal The U.S. EPA has released call-in information for the July 18 hearing on its proposed rule to set 2019 renewable volume obligations (RVOs) under the Renewable Fuel Standard, along with the 2020 RVO for biomass-based diesel. California reaches GHG reduction goal The California Air Resources Board has announced that in 2016 the state’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions fell below 1990 levels for the first time since emissions peaked in 2004. Biofuels helped achieve the reduction. READ MORE SHARE
ABFA asks Congress to halt RFS small refinery exemptions On July 17, Michael McAdams, president of the Advanced Biofuels Association, sent a letter to several congressional leaders regarding small refinery exemptions recently granted under the Renewable Fuel Standard. READ MORE SHARE

Spanner RE2 supplies 10 biomass CHP plants to company in Japan Spanner RE2 has announced it will install 10 biomass combined-heat-and-power (CHP) plants, including peripherals, at a major corporation in Nagano, Japan, later this year. NYC councilmembers ask mayor to adopt biomethane A dozen New York City councilmembers recently sent a letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio urging him to explore the use of biomethane fuel, which could be used by both NYC surface transit and in city fleets. READ MORE SHARE
Cities in California, New York make switch to Redeem RNG Clean Energy Fuels Corp. announced that Brookhaven, New York, has become its first customer in New York to begin using Redeem renewable natural gas (RNG). The city of Beverly Hills, California, has also signed a RNG contract with the company. READ MORE SHARE

California awards $69.9 million for dairy digester projects The California Department of Food and Agriculture has awarded $69.9 million in grant funding to 40 dairy digester projects across the state. Sumitomo SHI FW wins contract for biomass CFB boiler island Sumitomo SHI FW (SFW) announced July 10 that it has been awarded a contract by GS Engineering and Construction for design and supply of the Dangjin Biomass No. 2 Power Plant Project Boiler Island in South Korea. READ MORE SHARE
Outotec to build 35 MW biomass power plant in Turkey Outotec has signed a contract for the delivery of a 35 MW biomass power plant to be built in Turkey. Outotec is responsible for engineering, procurement and construction of the plant. The facility is expected to be operational by 2020. READ MORE SHARE
ElectraTherm installs waste heat-to-power generator in California ElectraTherm commissioned its first Power-plus generator in California to generate fuel-free power from a biomass boiler. The Organic Rankine Cycle generator is part of a California Energy Commission grant for CHP/prime power generation from biomass. READ MORE SHARE
Cherokee Freight Lines switches to Neste MY Renewable Diesel Cherokee Freight Lines, a Northern California trucking company, has switched its entire fleet of more than 200 trucks to run on Neste MY Renewable Diesel. The company is reporting significant reductions in fuel and maintenance costs. READ MORE SHARE
LanzaTech wins UK grant to support alcohol-to-jet project LanzaTech and its partners are one-step closer to building an alcohol-to-jet facility producing commercial quantities of fuel in the U.K. through a recent government grant awarded under the Transport Future Fuels for Flight and Freight Competition. Enel, F2i reach agreement for the sale of biomass plants in Italy The Enel Group has reached an agreement with F2i SGR for the sale of its entire portfolio of biomass generation plants in Italy, with a total net installed capacity of approximately 108 MW. READ MORE SHARE
