Brown signs bill requiring 100% clean electricity, updating RPS California Gov. Jerry Brown has signed Senate Bill 100. The legislation requires retail electricity suppliers within the state to secure 100 percent of their power from renewables or zero-emissions sources by 2045 and updates the state’s RPS. EPA asked to process RIN applications for biomass, biogas power On Sept. 6, 111 organizations, including the American Biogas Council and Biomass Power Association, sent a letter to the EPA Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler urging the immediate inclusion of renewable electricity in the Renewable Fuel Standard. DOE funds 36 bioenergy research and development projects The U.S. Department of Energy is awarding 36 projects a combined $80 million to support early-stage bioenergy research and development to enable cost-competitive drop-in renewable hydrocarbon fuels, biobased products and power. EIA updates bioenergy forecasts in September outlook The U.S. Energy Information Administration has released the September edition of its Short-Term Energy Outlook, predicting that nonhydropower renewables will provide more than 10 percent of electricity generation this year, up slightly from 2017.
