BECCS project at Drax begins capturing carbon dioxide


Drax Group has announced the first carbon dioxide has been captured at the bioenergy carbon capture and storage (BECCS) pilot at Drax Power Station. The pilot uses technology developed by C-Capture, a spin-out from Leeds University.

Aemetis begins permitting, construction of RNG project


Aemetis Inc. announced Feb. 7 that it has initiated the permitting and construction phase of its multi-dairy renewable biomethane digester cluster. The project will produce RNG will be used in ethanol production or as a vehicle fuel.

Pinnacle reports fire at Entwistle pellet plant


On Feb. 11, Pinnacle Renewable energy Inc. announced it has temporarily suspended operations at its 400,000-metric-ton wood pellet plant in Entwistle, Alberta, following a fire that occurred earlier that day at the facility.

Finland to require 30% biofuel, 10% advanced biofuel by 2030


On Feb. 6, the Parliament of Finland voted in favor of a law that aims to require transportation fuel to be comprised of 30 percent biofuel by 2030, with advanced biofuels accounting for 10 percent of transportation fuel by the same year.

FERC: US could to add 572 MW of biomass capacity by 2022


A report recently issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission shows the U.S added 68 MW of biomass power last year. An additional 572 MW of biomass capacity could be installed by January 2022.
