Enviva acquires 2 pellet plants Enviva Partners LP announced on June 18 it has agreed to purchase a wood pellet plant located in Waycross, Georgia, associated export terminal capacity in Savannah, Georgia, and a wood pellet plant located in Greenwood, South Carolina. READ MORE SHARE
Usibelli subsidiary buys Superior Pellet Fuels, plans wood kiln Aurora Energy Solutions LLC, a new company owned by Usibelli Investments, announced June 10 that it has acquired the assets of Superior Pellet Fuels and is constructing a state-of-the-art wood kiln. The kiln will produce clean-burning dry firewood. READ MORE SHARE
	EPA: 52 ‘gap year’ small refinery exemption petitions filed The U.S. EPA on June 18 released updated small refinery exemption data that shows small refiners have filed 52 “gap year” SRE petitions for RFS compliance years 2011 through 2018 in an effort to circumvent the Tenth Circuit Court’s January ruling. Bill compels EPA to act on RFS pathway, registration petitions Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., has introduced a bill that aims to approve certain advanced biofuel registrations under the RFS that the EPA has failed to take action on and set a deadline for the agency to act on future pathway and registration petitions. EPA: 1.26 billion RINs generated in May The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for May, reporting that nearly 1.26 billion RINs were generated under the RFS during the month, down from 1.72 billion generated during the same month of 2019. READ MORE SHARE
SoCalGas, PG&E and Opus 12 demonstrate conversion of CO2 into RNG Southern California Gas Co., Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), and Opus 12 on June 22 announced they have demonstrated further advancement of a new electrochemical technology that converts the carbon dioxide content in raw biogas to RNG. ABC: Moving Forward Act can boost biogas industry The American Biogas Council praised the release of the long awaited infrastructure package by the U.S. House of Representatives entitled, The Moving Forward Act (H.R.2). The $1.5 trillion proposal includes tax provisions that benefit biogas. READ MORE SHARE
FuelCell Energy resumes manufacturing at Connecticut plant FuelCell Energy Inc. has resumed manufacturing at its Torrington, Connecticut, facility, which temporarily suspended manufacturing activities in March due to COVID-19. The company also noted construction is underway on a California biogas project. READ MORE SHARE
City of Boulder partners with Tetra Tech, CGRS on biogas project Construction is more than halfway finished on the City of Boulder’s biogas use enhancement project, located at the city’s water resource recovery facility. Biogas produced from wastewater digesters will be converted into RNG for vehicle fuel. READ MORE SHARE
DOE funds 2 carbon utilization projects focused on algae The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy on June 16 announced it will award $17 million to 11 advanced carbon utilization projects. Approximately $6 million of that funding will support algae projects. READ MORE SHARE
