$1.7M grant will improve barge access for proposed pellet plant


The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration announced on Oct. 20 a $1.7 million grant to improve barge access at the Port of Epes Industrial Park in Alabama. The project will benefit a proposed Enviva pellet plant.

Renova moves forward with sixth biomass power plant


Japan-based Renova Inc. announced on Oct. 26 it has made a final investment decision and reached financial close on a 75 MW biomass power plant under development in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, a city approximately 225 miles northeast of Tokyo.

RWE plant converts fifth unit to biomass


The Port of Rotterdam on Oct. 28 announced that RWE’s Amercentrale power plant will soon be fueled with 80 percent biomass. The facility is working to convert the fifth of its six turbines from firing coal to firing wood pellets.
