USDA: US wood pellet exports at 646,494 metric tons in July


The U.S. exported 646,494.1 metric tons of wood pellets in July, up from both 603,752.2 metric tons in June and 643,727.5 metric tons in July 2020, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on Sept. 2.

Court denies HPBA challenge to wood heater test standards


The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on Aug. 27 denied a petition for review filed by the HPBA asking the court to vacate the audit testing provisions of the agency's 2015 NSPS for residential wood heating applicances.

Construction on 50 MW biomass plant in Japan to begin in May 2022


Construction on the Niigata East Port Biomass Power Plant, a proposed 50-megawatt (MW) facility under development in Niigata, Japan, is set to begin in May 2022. The plant is currently expected to be operational in October 2024.

The U.K. government on Aug. 25 awarded £4 million ($5.5 million) to 24 projects that aim to increase domestic production of biomass feedstock for energy production. Each project will receive up to £200,000.
