EPA proposes to approve canola oil fuel pathways under RFS The U.S. EPA on April 12 published a proposed rule approve Renewable Fuel Standard pathways for renewable diesel, jet fuel, heating oil, naphtha, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) produced from canola/rapeseed oil via a hydrotreating process. USDA: US wood pellet exports at 628,660 metric tons in February The U.S. exported 628,659.8 metric tons of wood pellets in February, down when compared to the 655,656.5 metric tons exported in January, but up when compared to the 556,801.7 metric tons of exports reported for February 2021. 	EPA denies 36 SREs, does not remedy demand destruction The EPA has denied the 36 SREs petitions for compliance year 2018 that were remanded by a recent court ruling. The 31 small refineries whose previously approved SREs were overturned will not need purchase or redeem additional RINs to meet 2018 RVOs. READ MORE SHARE
Neste enables transport of renewable diesel by pipeline in Europe Neste, Altens and TRAPIL have collaborated to enable the first-ever transport of renewable diesel by a pipeline in Europe. With a pipeline transport, the GHG emissions were reduced by 92 percent compared to conventional logistics by tanker trucks. READ MORE SHARE
USDA announces efforts to boost homegrown biofuels On April 12, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced steps the USDA is taking to implement President Biden’s plan to enable energy independence by boosting homegrown biofuels, including HBIIP grants and SAF initiatives. READ MORE SHARE
Tidewater enters strategic RNG, biofuel feedstock partnership Tidewater Renewables Ltd. has entered a strategic RNG and feedstock partnership with Rimrock RNG Inc., and Rimrock Cattle Company Ltd. USDA maintains forecast for soybean oil use in biofuel production The USDA maintained its forecast for 2021-’22 soybean oil use in biofuel production in its latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, released April 8. Aemetis successfully tests biogas-to-RNG upgrading facility Aemetis Inc. announced that its Aemetis Biogas subsidiary has successfully completed testing of the $12 million dairy biogas-to-RNG upgrading and compression facility for the Aemetis Biogas Dairy Digester Project in California. USDA hosts meeting to gather public input on statistical programs The USDA's NASS will hold its biannual Data Users’ Meeting on April 19, 2022. Senators urge EPA to adopt GREET model for biofuels A group of nine senators sent a letter to U.S. EPA Administrator Michael Regan on April 1 urging the agency to improve its greenhouse gas (GHG) modeling for biofuels by adopting the Argonne National Laboratory’s GREET model. READ MORE SHARE
Japanese companies acquire 50 MW biomass project from Solariant Pasadena, California-based Solariant Capital LLC on April 8 announced that a consortium of Japanese companies has entered an agreement to acquire its 50 MW Tahara Biomass Power Plant project, under development in Tahara City, Aichi prefecture, Japan.
