Fulcrum BioEnergy begins operations of its Sierra BioFuels plant Fulcrum BioEnergy Inc. on May 24 announced the completion of commissioning and the initial operations of its Sierra BioFuels Plant. EPA opens comment period on proposed consent decree for 2023 RVOs The U.S. EPA on May 23 opened a public comment period on a proposed consent decree that would require the agency to issue proposed 2023 RFS RVOs by Sept. 16, 2022, and issue a final rule setting 2023 RVOs by April 28, 2023. EPA: 1.7 billion RINs generated under RFS in April The U.S. EPA has released data showing that more than 1.7 billion renewable identification numbers (RINs) were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in April, up from nearly 1.58 billion generated during the same month of 2021. GE Aviation completes testing of Passport engine using 100% SAF GE Aviation has completed successful testing of its Passport long-range business aviation engine using 100 percent SAF. The engine can operate on approved SAF today, and the testing shows the capability of the engine to run on 100 percent SAF. READ MORE SHARE

Hawaii PUC rejects PPA for biomass power plant The Hawaii Public Utilities Commission on May 23 rejected an amended power purchase agreement (PPA) between Hawaii Electric Light Co. Inc. EPA: No new SRE petitions filed, 69 SRE petitions remain pending Data released by the U.S. EPA on May 19 shows that for the fourth consecutive month, no new SRE petitions were filed under the RFS. EPA rule could alter RIN retirement schedule for small refineries The U.S. EPA on May 17 submitted a proposed rule to the White House Office of Management and Budget that aims to create an alternative renewable identification number (RIN) retirement schedule for small refineries under the Renewable Fuel Standard. SGP BioEnergy to develop 2.6-billion-gallon biorefinery in Panama A team of companies led by SGP BioEnergy joined the Government of Panama announced on May 18 plans to develop a 180,000 barrels per day (2.6 billion gallons per year) advanced biorefinery and SAF production platform in Panama. Anaergia upgrades anaerobic digesters at Ontario facility Anaergia Inc. announced that it signed a design-build agreement with the Town of Petawawa, Ontario.
