USDA: US wood pellet exports at 740,605 metric tons in May The U.S. exported 740,605 metric tons of wood pellets in May, up from both 659,071 metric tons the previous month and 513,608 metric tons in May 2021, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on July 7. EIA: US ethanol, renewable diesel capacity expands in April U.S. operable production capacity for ethanol and renewable diesel expanded in April, while biodiesel capacity fell slightly, according to data released by the U.S. EIA on July 5. 	European Parliament adopts draft SAF targets The European Parliament on July 7 voted 334 to 95 to adopt draft rules for the ReFuelEU initiative, which aims to require sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to account for at least 85 percent of EU aviation fuel by 2050. READ MORE SHARE
USDA maintains its forecast for soybean oil use in biofuel The USDA maintained its forecast for 2022-’23 soybean oil use in biofuel production in its latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report, released July 12. The 2022-’23 soybean outlook is for lower production and lower prices. READ MORE SHARE
MOL Drybulk, Drax launch green shipping initiative Leading renewable energy company Drax Group and Japanese shipping company MOL Drybulk Ltd. are working together to reduce the emissions and fuel costs associated with shipping biomass by deploying wind power technology on its vessels. Fulcrum BioEnergy completes $20M investment with SK Innovation Fulcrum BioEnergy Inc. on July 12 announced a $20 million equity investment in by SK Innovation, the energy arm of South Korea's SK Group. Neste delivers CORSIA certified SAF to American Airlines For the first time in aviation history a CORSIA certified batch of SAF was delivered to a commercial airline. EIA: Densified biomass fuel sales reach 880,000 tons in March The U.S. Energy Information Administration recently released data showing U.S. manufacturers produced approximately 920,000 tons of densified biomass fuel in March, with sales reaching 880,000 tons. READ MORE SHARE
Aemetis acquires site for CCS injection well Aemetis Inc., an RNG and renewable fuels company, on July 8 announced the purchase of 24 acres, known as “Parcel B” on the Riverbank Industrial Complex site, to develop a carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) injection well. READ MORE SHARE
Next Renewable Fuels project endorsed by unions, labor groups Labor organizers and unions in Oregon have rallied together to endorse Next Renewable Fuels’ proposed $2 billion renewable diesel project at Port Westward. Kohler approves use of renewable diesel in its diesel generators Kohler Power Systems, part of Kohler Co., has announced that its entire offering of mission-critical diesel generators is compatible with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).
