EPA approves carinata fuel pathway for REG’s Geismar facility The U.S. EPA on June 30 approved a RFS fuel pathway filed by Renewable Energy Group Inc. that will allow the company’s biorefinery in Geismar, Louisiana, to generate D4 and D5 RINs for certain biofuels produced using carinata oil feedstock. UK sets 10% SAF goal, launches £165 Advanced Fuels Fund The U.K. government on July 19 released its Jet Zero strategy. The initiative, in part, requires at least 10 percent SAF use by 2030. 	USIPA comments on ITRE Committee REDIII vote USIPA applauds the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) for putting forth increased climate ambitions in it's vote on the RED, but is calling on the European Parliament to address overly restrictive language on woody biomass. Boeing, Alder Fuels partner to scale SAF globally Boeing and Alder Fuels on July 18 announced a new partnership to expand production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) around the world. Using Boeing airplanes, the companies will test and qualify Alder-derived SAF. READ MORE SHARE
Orsted: Waste heat can help reduce pellet use at Avedore facility Denmark-based energy company Orsted on July 5 announced plans to establish carbon capture at two of its biomass-fired power stations and utilize surplus heat to reduce the long-term consumption of wood pellets for district heating. Anaergia to build 1.2 MW manure-to-energy project in Japan Anaergia Inc. on July 18 announced plans to construct a biogas plant in Kasaoka, Okayama, for Toyo Energy Solution Co. Ltd. The system will produce about 1.2 megawatts (MW) of clean renewable electricity from biogas. READ MORE SHARE
GIP provides update of 3 RNG projects Green Impact Partners has released updates on three advanced RNG projects. Construction is expected to start on the Iowa project this year. A project in Canada is undergoing permitting, with a Colorado project expected to begin commissioning soon. READ MORE SHARE
Embraer, Pratt & Whitney complete 100% SAF flight test Embraer and Pratt & Whitney have successfully tested a GTF-powered E195-E2 aircraft on 100 percent SAF. The test validated that GTF engines and the E-Jets E2 family can fly on both engines with blends of up to 100 percent SAF. READ MORE SHARE
CES to convert California biomass plant to carbon removal project Clean Energy Systems Inc. announced July 12 that it entered into an agreement to acquire the idled Madera Biomass Power Plant in California. CES intends to convert the existing facility into a biomass carbon removal and storage (BiCRS) facility. READ MORE SHARE
EIA predicts continued growth in biofuel consumption U.S. biofuels consumption has risen in 2022 and that growth is expected to continue, according to the U.S. EIA's latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, released July 13. Renewable diesel is expected to account for much of the increase. READ MORE SHARE
Novilla RNG begins construction at Trillium Hill Farm project Three Petals RNG LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Novilla Investment Holdings LLC, announced on July 12 the beginning of construction of its first dairy renewable natural gas (RNG) project at Trillium Hill Farm in Berlin, Wisconsin.
