<p>Patrick Serfass, executive director of the <a href="http://www.americanbiogascouncil.org">American Biogas Council</a>, issued the following statement praising the decision announced yesterday by the U.S. EPA to reopen its greenhouse gas emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicles:</p><p>“The American Biogas Council applauds the EPA’s decision to update the greenhouse gas emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles, which may now offer more opportunities for a fuller range of clean-energy solutions. In vehicles, biogas-related fuels reduce carbon emissions by half to seven times more than gasoline, so all options should have been allowed originally. This move represents an opportunity for market-driven innovation and recognizes the potential of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles to run on renewable natural gas (RNG), help reduce air pollution, strengthen energy security, and expand economic opportunities for jobs and investment. We encourage the EPA to consider a flexible regulatory framework that recognizes the full benefits of biogas-derived fuels which will help ensure America’s trucking industry remains&nbsp;competitive.”</p>
