Biomass Power Association today announced several key changes to its board of directors. Tom Beck, an executive at ReEnergy Holdings Inc., will become chairman of the board. Paula Soos of Covanta, the current chair, will serve as vice-chair. Minnesota Power&rsquo;s Bill Libro and FSE Energy&rsquo;s Marvin Burchfield will join the board as members.&nbsp;

Beck is principal and chief commercial officer at Latham, N.Y.-based ReEnergy Holdings, a biomass company with 290 employees that generates&nbsp;330 MW of energy in&nbsp;six states. A founder of ReEnergy, Beck sits on the company&rsquo;s board of directors and is a member of its executive committee. He was a consultant to the solid waste and renewable energy industries for three years before the formation of ReEnergy Holdings. Before that, Beck was a vice president of American Ref-Fuel Co. and president of TransRiver Marketing Co. Beck has served on the Biomass Power Association board of directors since 2012.

Marvin Burchfield serves as vice president of the solid fuel business unit at FSE Energy. Based in Covington, La., FSE Energy supplies the highest quality heat and energy equipment, services and solutions, including a full line of biomass fired energy systems for the utility and industrial user. FSE Energy enables its global utility and industrial customers to succeed through the delivery of advanced, proven and environmentally sound technology. Since 1935, the company has built strong relationships by providing unwavering dedication and support to its customers around the world by doing business in person, seizing opportunities and embracing the challenges of the modern energy marketplace. Burchfield directs all activities within the solid fuel business unit, focusing on expansion of the group into new industrial markets, new geographic markets and represents FSE as an industry advocate.&nbsp;Prior to joining FSE Energy, Burchfield held a variety of executive and management positions with companies such as Decker Energy, Biomass Energy Resources and Duke Energy.&nbsp;
Libro serves as the director of federal government affairs for Minnesota Power, a subsidiary of ALLETE. With three biomass facilities and a range of other energy facilities, Minnesota Power continues to seek out more sources of renewable energy, and has moved from an energy supply that was 5 percent renewable in 2005 to one that is 20 percent renewable today.&nbsp;Libro manages various federal legislative and regulatory issues that affect Minnesota Power and ALLETE's other business units, and advocates the company's positions within the executive, legislative, and regulatory branches of our federal government. Libro has held a variety of positions in public education, private industry, and state government. Prior to joining Minnesota Power, Libro worked in the Washington office for another major Midwestern utility.
Burchfield and Libro are the newest members of the board of directors. In addition to Beck, Soos and Cleaves, the Board includes Frazier Blaylock of Covanta Energy, Bill Carlson of Carlson Small Power Consultants, Joe Dalton of GDF Suez North America, Steve Hall of ReEnergy, Wade Mosby of Collins Companies, Daniel Simon of Ballard Spahr, Hugh Smith of Greenleaf Power and Tom Spies of Powell Group.
