Renewables accounted for a record 54.5% of U.K. electricity generation during the second quarter of 2025, according to data released by the U.K. government. Generation from plant biomass was up, but generation from other forms of bioenergy fell.
Drax Group plc on Nov. 5 confirmed it has signed a contract with the U.K. government that will provide transitional support for all four of the biomass units at Drax Power Station from April 2027 through March 2031.
The U.K. Department for Transport on Oct. 16 confirmed it will implement a revenue certainty mechanism for SAF in the form of an aviation fuel supplier levy. The agency is currently seeking public comments regarding implementation details.
European logistics company Exolum on Oct. 15 announced its decision to invest £4.5 million in creating the U.K.’s first independent sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) blending facility at Redcliffe Bay in south-west England.
Drax, the renewable energy business, is partnering with NGIS, a global leader in geospatial technology, to model and monitor the carbon stocks of the U.S. and Canadian forests that Drax sources its sustainable biomass from.
