Drax Group plc on Dec. 11 announced the company has no near-term or medium-term plans to expand wood pellet production capacity. Work on the proposed 450,000-metric-ton-per-year pellet plant in Longview, Washington, will remain paused.
Renewables are expected to account for more than 24% of U.S. electricity generation in 2025, expanding to 26% in 2026, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, released Dec. 9.
Sumitomo Corp. on Nov. 28 announced a new 112 megawatt (MW) biomass power plant has begun commercial operations in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. The facility is fueled by wood pellets and wood chips.
Biomass energy sources supplied more than 9% of the U.K.’s electricity in during July, setting a new monthly record, according to the latest Electric Insights Quarterly report released by Imperial College London on Dec. 3.
The U.K. government on Nov. 24 announced it will apply a new anti-dumping duty on imports of biodiesel from China. The ad valorem duties range from $14.79% to 54.64% and will apply to biodiesel and renewable diesel. SAF is excluded.
