The Nevada County, California, Board of Supervisors on Oct. 22 allocated $90,000 to a biomass pilot project to process large green waste and improve wildfire and climate resiliency. The project fits in with both the board’s climate resiliency and emergency preparedness objectives.&nbsp;The biomass pilot project involves converting green waste like logs and wood rounds into biochar, a type of charcoal that sequesters carbon and reduces emissions in the atmosphere. &nbsp;The project is expected to start this month and run through June and will be located on a county property on La Barr Meadows Road in Grass Valley, adjacent to the county’s operations center, with a goal of processing up to 10,000 tons of biomass.&nbsp;“As we continue to explore innovative ways to reduce emissions and combat climate change, this biomass pilot project is a significant step forward for our community,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Hardy Bullock. “This project will turn waste that might otherwise go to landfills into a valuable resource, supporting sustainable energy production.”The $90,000 will go to Mountain Enterprises for grappling truck services needed to collect large green waste materials. The Office of Emergency Services will be prioritizing the removal of large green waste from priority areas identified in the&nbsp;<a href="https://nevadacountyca.gov/3831/Nevada-County-Evacuation-Study">Nevada County Evacuation Study</a>.&nbsp;The project is being completed in partnership and in collaboration with the Nevada County Office of Emergency Services, Nevada County Consolidated Fire District, City of Grass Valley, City of Nevada City, and the Gold Country Senior Firewood Program. Pacific Gas &amp; Electric Company intends to subsidize the grappling truck services and Earth Foundries will manage the worksite and oversee operations.&nbsp;&nbsp;
