Dutch biomethanol producer Perpetual Next and American equipment&nbsp;supplier TSI celebrated their long-term collaboration on Nov. 24 with the kick-off of constructing the world's&nbsp;largest torrefaction reactor in Estonia.The reactor is an important part of Perpetual Next's Biomethanol Blueprint, which is currently deployed at four Perpetual Next production sites in Europe and the United States. This blueprint for large-scale biomethanol production with proven industrial technology, enables rapid, serial replication at a commercial scale. It is developed in partnership with, among others, Air Liquide and Perpetual Next home engineer Fluor and has an output of 220,000 tons of biomethanol per year per production location.Fuel for shipping As part of the blueprint, TSI and Perpetual Next entered into an agreement in March last year for the production of eight large-scale torrefaction reactors, each with a production capacity of 80,000 metric tons of renewable carbon per year. The carbon produced is then converted into biomethanol via a gasification system and methanol synthesis, which is used as a raw material for chemicals and fuel for shipping. TSI CEO Benny Teal: “TSI is honoured and excited to have been selected by Perpetual Next as its torrefaction technology supplier for biomethanol production. Perpetual Next’s innovation, determination and pioneering spirit show us all an important example of how we can all benefit from the rapidly developing renewable carbon market.”Technical and strategic collaboration After the successful installation of a large TSI drying plant for pretreatment at the Perpetual Next production site in Estonia in 2020, TSI successfully commissioned a torrefaction reactor at its own production facility in Georgia (USA) in May 2025.
