Fulcrum, the U.K.&rsquo;s leading independent energy and utilities provider, has secured and delivered its first biogas contract since it entered the market, with the installation of a 1.3 kilometer (0.81 mile) gas pipeline.
The project, delivered on behalf of the main contractor, Burrell &amp; Sons,&nbsp;has seen&nbsp;installation of a new pipeline to connect a &pound;12 million ($17.12 million) biogas plant to the U.K. distribution network at a site in Welbeck Colliery.
A team of four engineers&nbsp;were&nbsp;based at the Colliery for the length of the project, which took eleven weeks, carrying out excavation work and laying the pipeline.
Fulcrum traditionally designs and installs new gas and utility infrastructure to domestic properties and business premises to receive gas from the U.K. Gas network. The new service sees Fulcrum&rsquo;s installation process reversed to enable energy produced by biogas generators to be fed into the U.K. network via the installation of new gas infrastructure.
The introduction of this service is part of Fulcrum&rsquo;s strategy to operate across a range of utility sectors providing technical engineering, design, project management and consultancy services. It has established a strong track record in the utilities industry and includes British Gas among its high profile customers.
The U.K. biogas industry is experiencing considerable growth and has expanded seven-fold since 2010 according the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association. With around 400 operational plants across the U.K., the organization also suggests there is scope for more than a thousand.
