Montauk Renewables Inc. on May 8 announced the company produced 1.4 million MMBtu of renewable natural gas (RNG) during the first quarter of 2025, unchanged when compared to the same period of last year. Renewable electricity generation was at 46,000 megawatt hours (MWh), down 8,000 MWh.&nbsp;The volume of renewable identification numbers (RINs) sold expanded to 9.9 million during the three-month period, up 2 million or 25.3% when compared to the first quarter of 2024.In its first quarter earnings release, Montauk stressed that the company’s profitability is highly dependent on the price of environmental attributes, including the market price for RINs. Montauk elected to not commit RINs to be sold during the fourth quarter of last year, resulting in approximately 6.8 million RINs available but unsold at year end. The company confirmed it has now sold all RINs associated with its 2024 RNG production.Montauk described several regulatory factors impacting the company’s performance, including changes implemented by the U.S. EPA’s &nbsp;Biogas Regulatory Reform Rule, which came into force this year, and the agency’s decision to delay the 2024 Renewable Fuel Standard compliance deadline, which has impacted the timing of obligated party purchases of 2025 RINs.&nbsp;During an earnings call, Montauk President and CEO Sean McClain discussed ongoing company projects. He said Montauk has prioritized its RNG facility at the Atascocita Landfill in Humble, Texas, as the first of the biogenic CO2 projects to be developed under the company’s agreement with European Energy. Under that agreement, biogenic CO2 delivered to European Energy is expected to be used as feedstock in the production of e-methanol.&nbsp;Montauk is also working to add food-grade CO2 processing to its &nbsp;Rumpke RNG project location in Cincinnati, Ohio. That project, expected to be operational in 2027, would produce an estimated 50,000 metric tons per year of food-grade CO2, McClain said.&nbsp;Also at the Atascocita landfill, Montauk is developing small-scale pilot project development with Emvolon for the production of green methanol. McClain said the project is ongoing, noting that Emvolon has installed its patented containerized processing technology.Montauk reported first quarter revenues of $42.6 million for the first quarter, up 9.8% when compared to the same period of 2024. Operating income was $400,000, down 82.7%. Net loss was $500,000, down 125.1%.&nbsp;&nbsp;
