The Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority is offering approximately $12.5 million in funding to support alternative and renewable energy projects in the state, including biomass, solar, wind and hydro projects. According to information released by PEDA, the opportunity is open to entities interested in locating or expanding their alternative energy manufacturing or production operations in Pennsylvania.
&ldquo;This funding is an opportunity for companies, municipalities, schools and organizations to deploy alternative energy projects or construct new facilities related to alternative fuels,&rdquo; said Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett. &ldquo;Such projects further our goal to develop a diverse and robust energy sector here in Pennsylvania, in a manner that protects our environment and uses our resources smartly and efficiently.&rdquo;
Eligible applications include corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, associations, other legal business entities; nonprofits; Pennsylvania schools, colleges and universities; and any Pennsylvania municipality, public corporation, authority or body.
Approximately $10 million of the available funding is expected to be awarded to alternative and renewable energy projects. Biomass, anaerobic digestion and landfill gas project are among the list of advanced energy projects eligible for that funding.
The remaining funding is expected to support clean alternative fuels, alternative energy manufacturing and alternative energy research. Projects eligible for that funding include the construction of new facilities to produce alternative fuels for transportation, construction of new facilities to provide alternative fuels recycling infrastructure, projects that support the manufacture of component parts of the alternative energy sector, and projects that support research to advance or commercialize alternative energy projects.
According to information released on the funding opportunity, PEDA expects to fund projects that request grant or loan funding of $500,000 and less. Requests for funding amounts larger than $500,000 will require additional application materials and special approval by the PEDA Board. No applications for funds greater than $1 million will be accepted.
Funds will be awarded in the form of grants or loans on a competitive basis. Applications are due August 15. A webinar for those interested in participating in the solicitation is scheduled for June 24.
