Japan-based Renova Inc. on Nov. 6 announced the startup of its 49.9 megawatt (MW) Karatsu Biomass Power Plant will be delayed. The facility, originally scheduled to begin operations in December, is now expected to be operational in March 2025.Renova attributed the delay to the need for additional time to make adjustments to the boiler and turbine facilities to ensure long-term stable operations at the plant.&nbsp;Once operational, the Karatsu facility will be fueled with wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS).&nbsp;Renova said the project is expected to receive liquidated damages from the EPC for a certain period of time due to the change in the start of commercial operation based on the EPC contract.&nbsp;The Karatsu Biomass Power Plant is one of several biomass power plants developed by Renova. The 75-MW&nbsp;Omaezakikou Biomass Power Plant&nbsp;has also faced operational delays and is currently scheduled to begin operations in March 2025. In November 2023, the company announced its 75-MW&nbsp;Morinomiyako Biomass Power Plant&nbsp;<a href="https://biomassmagazine.com/articles/renovas-75-mw-morinomiyako-biomass-power-plant-begins-operations">had begun operations</a>. The following month Renova&nbsp;<a href="https://biomassmagazine.com/articles/renova-begins-operations-at-tokushima-biomass-power-plant">announced startup</a>&nbsp;of its 74.8-MW Tokushima Tsuda Biomass Power Plant, while the 75-MW Ishinomaki Hibarino Biomass plant began operations in March 2024. Additional Renova biomass plants that are currently operational include the 20.5-MW Akita Biomass facility and the 75-MW Kanda Biomass plant.&nbsp;&nbsp;
