Low-carbon alternative energy will be the focus of a new Canadian conference in the planning. &ldquo;Scaling Up: Delivering Canada&rsquo;s low carbon, biobased economy through sustainable innovation,&rdquo; is set for Nov. 14-16 at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier hotel in Ottawa.&nbsp;
&ldquo;I see what&rsquo;s happening globally and the number of international conferences taking place&mdash;Canada needs to get in the game,&rdquo; explained conference organizer Jeff Passmore.&nbsp; &ldquo;We have a new federal government in Canada that is seeking innovative ways to meet its international commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This conference will present ways to do just that through the widespread use of bioplastics, biochemicals, bioenergy and advanced biofuels.&rdquo;
Biobased companies will be showcasing their success stories, at the conference, he said. Other speakers will discuss the opportunities in Canada to build commercial plants. &ldquo;Canada has enormous biomass resources in both forestry and agriculture,&rdquo; Passmore said, &ldquo;and a lot of government financial incentives to encourage direct investment. Scaling Up assumes the bioeconomy is good for business, good for the environment, and good public policy. We will address the question of how do we get lots of these technologies deployed in Canada.&rdquo;
Confirmed speakers include representatives from the Forest Products Association of Canada, Bioindustrial Innovation Canada, Sustainable Development Technology Canada, Institute for Research on Public Policy, Conifex Timber, Canadian Coalition for Green Finance, among others.
