The U.S. Forest Service on Aug. 5 warded $105.5 million in wood innovation grants to 177 projects across the nation. Funded projects include those focused on biochar, bioenergy and wood pellet production.
Renewables are expected to account for 26% of U.S. electricity generation in 2026, increasing to nearly 28% in 2027, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, released Aug. 11.
Drax Group plc on July 30 announced the company’s North American pellet mills produced 1.9 million metric tons of wood pellets during the first half of 2026, down from 2.1 million metric tons of production reported for the same period of 2025.
Quebec has set a goal to more than double its bioenergy production by 2050 as part of the province’s new Integrated Energy Resource Management Plan, which was released by Quebec’s Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy on June 30.
The U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities on June 15 launched a request for proposals (RFP) to assess the feasibility of repurposing closed wood products manufacturing facilities, including pulp and paper mills, for bioenergy.
