Fulcrum Bioenergy produces first biofuel at Sierra Biofuels plant Fulcrum BioEnergy Inc. has successfully produced a low-carbon synthetic crude oil using landfill waste as a feedstock at its Sierra BioFuels Plant, the world’s first commercial-scale landfill waste-to-fuels plant. READ MORE SHARE
CoBank says 2023 outlook for biofuels is ‘very strong’ CoBank on Dec. 13 released a report outlining its 2023 forecast for the U.S. rural economy. Within that report, CoBank says “the outlook for biofuels is very strong, supported by federal policy and demand tailwinds from 2022.” READ MORE SHARE
	EPA: 1.94 billion RINs generated in November The U.S. EPA on Dec. 15 released data showing more than 1.94 billion renewable identification numbers (RINs) were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in November, up from 1.78 billion generated during the same month of last year. READ MORE SHARE
Virgin Atlantic to fuel transatlantic flight with 100% SAF The U.K. Department of Transport on Dec. 16 announced that Virgin Atlantic will operate a historic net-zero flight from London to New York next year using 100 percent SAF. The flight will be supported by funds awarded by the U.K. government. READ MORE SHARE
EPA responds to GAO report on RIN prices, small refineries The U.S. EPA on Dec. 20 released a final analysis on the price of RINs and small refineries in response to a U.S. GAO report. The final analysis confirms the agency’s conclusion that small refineries recover their RFS compliance costs. READ MORE SHARE
Clean Energy opens new RNG station for Amazon Clean Energy Fuels Corp. has announced the opening of another renewable natural gas (RNG) fueling station that will provide an anticipated 1.4 million gallons of the clean fuel annually for Amazon and other truck fleets in the greater Chicago area. 	EIA: Densified biomass fuel sales at 860,000 tons in August The U.S. Energy Information Administration recently released data showing U.S. manufacturers produced approximately 890,000 tons of densified biomass fuel in August, with sales reaching 860,000 tons. READ MORE SHARE
UK offers funding for hydrogen from BECCS projects The U.K. government on Dec. 13 announced £25 million in funding to support technologies that can produce hydrogen from sustainable biomass and waste while removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. READ MORE SHARE
Portland to phase in renewable requirements for diesel sales The Portland City Council on Dec. 8 adopted a new policy that aims to reduce carbon emissions from diesel-fueled transportation by phasing in requirements for the use of renewable fuels, such as biodiesel and renewable diesel. Vision RNG, Waste Connection to develop RNG project in Kentucky Vision RNG LLC has announced an RNG agreement with the Laurel Ridge Landfill in Corbin, Kentucky, which is owned by Laurel Ridge Landfill LLC, a subsidiary of Waste Connections Inc. EPA opens registration for Jan. 10 hearing on RFS ‘set’ rule The U.S. EPA is now accepting registrations for a virtual public hearing to be held Jan. 10 on its proposed RFS “set” rule, which includes RVOs for 2023, 2024 and 2025 and outlines the agency’s plans for the generation of e-RINs.
