Vermont Affordable Heat Act becomes law The Vermont House on May 11 voted 107 to 42 to override Gov. Phil Scott’s veto of the Affordable Heat Act, which is designed to reduce GHGs in the state’s thermal sector, including through the use of advanced wood heating and sustainable biofuels. 	Tidewater biorefinery to begin operations before the end of Q2 Tidewater Renewables Ltd. released Q1 financial results on May 11, confirming that the company’s 3,000-barrel-per-day (45.99 MMgy) renewable diesel complex under development in British Columbia is expected to reach commerical production in Q2. Peoples Gas announces completion of Florida RNG facility TECO Peoples Gas has celebrated the completion of construction of its renewable natural gas (RNG) facility at Alliance Dairies with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. USDA offers $11 billion in clean energy funding The USDA on May 16 announced it will soon begin accepting letters of interest (LOIs) under two programs that will support the deployment of clean and renewable energy, including eligible biomass projects. READ MORE SHARE
NEXT Renewables Fuels, Dansuk partner on low-carbon feedstocks NEXT Renewable Fuels Inc. and Dansuk Industrial Corp. have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly develop strategic and commercial partnerships, including those involving feedstocks for biofuel production. 	Vertex Energy reports delayed startup of renewable diesel unit Vertex Energy Inc. on May 9 announced that startup of its renewable diesel production unit at its refinery in Mobile, Alabama, has been delayed following a failure in a feedstock pumping system. Gevo announces intent to apply for DOE loan guarantee for NZ1 Gevo Inc. on May 10 reported it has entered into a technology access agreement with Phillips 66 and ADM. The company also announced progress with its RNG operations but said plans for its NZ1 SAF project will likley be delayed. READ MORE SHARE
ZwitterCo, Mott partner to improve CI, economics of AD systems ZwitterCo and Mott Corp. are partnering to deliver wastewater solutions for manure digesters, food-waste digesters, breweries and distilleries in North America that can increase the value of coproducts and lower the CI soore of the resulting biogas. USDA predicts increased soybean oil use in biofuel production The USDA predicts more soybean oil will go to biofuel production in 2023-’24, according to forecasts made in the agency’s latest WASDE report, released May 12. Soybean oil prices are expected to be down slightly. READ MORE SHARE
Improved carbon accounting for biogas projects underway The American Biogas Council has engaged EcoEngineers to plan, develop and publish a new carbon accounting new carbon accounting methodology to measure the carbon intensity of all biogas projects by the end of 2023. READ MORE SHARE
Kinder Morgan, Neste place feedstock, logistics hub into service Kinder Morgan Inc. has announced the commercial in-service of its renewable feedstock storage and logistics hub project with Neste. Neste will store various raw materials, such as used cooking oil, at Kinder Morgan’s Harvey Terminal in Louisiana. READ MORE SHARE
