Energy Quest, COFAMM to built Romania facility

Nevada-based Energy Quest Inc. announced Sept. 2 that it has signed a letter of intent with Romentino, Italy-based recycling machine manufacturer CO.F.A.M.M. to enter into a definitive purchase agreement for the construction and installation of a 500 ton per day municipal solid waste gasification plant in Romania, which will generate 20 megawatts of power.READ MORE

MHG Systems Ltd. of Mikkeli, Finland, has released a new enterprise resource planning software solution to help biomass energy companies manage their businesses. Bioenergy ERP provides tools for managing biomass inventories, scheduling tasks, transportation, invoicing, and ash recycling.READ MORE

Algae-based technology receives $3 million

Heliae Development LLC is investing $1.5 million in an Arizona State University research program to develop strains of algae that can be used to produce kerosene-based aviation fuel. Heliae Development's funding is being matched with a $1.5 million award from Science Foundation Arizona.READ MORE

California district considers anaerobic digester

The South San Joaquin Irrigation District, which provides irrigation water for the agricultural areas surrounding the cities of Escalon, Ripon, and Manteca, Calif., has begun a feasibility study to determine if the district should build an anaerobic digester to assist area dairy farmers, as well as produce and sell electricity. SSJID is considering a proposal to build a digester for Brasil & Sons Dairy Inc. in Escalon, which has 2,850 cattle that could supply feedstock for the facility.READ MORE

Texas companies partner to build wood-fired plant

The Austin, Texas, city council has unanimously approved a renewable power purchase agreement between city-owned electric utility Austin Energy and Nacogdoches Power LLC, in what is expected to be a $2.3 billion contract over 20 years. The plan calls for Austin Energy to purchase all of the electricity produced at Nacogdoches Power's proposed 100-megawatt power generation facility, which will use waste wood to produce electricity.READ MORE

Vancouver-based Lignol Energy Corp., a cellulosic biomass technology developer, has announced that its U.S. subsidiary Lignol Innovations Inc. is moving forward with plans to locate its demonstration-scale cellulosic ethanol production facility in Grand Junction, Colo.READ MORE

MBI, SunEthanol to scale-up fermentation method

In response to the increasing market demand for cellulosic biofuels, SunEthanol Inc. has formed a partnership with MBI International to scale-up a fermentation method that will utilize SunEthanol's Q-Microbe which effectively digests and ferments cellulosic feedstocks to ethanol in a single-step process.READ MORE

GreenHunter Renewable Power acquires plant

Texas-based GreenHunter Renewable Power LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of GreenHunter Energy Inc., announced Sept. 3 it has acquired a 14 megawatt biomass power plant in Telogia, Fla. Previously owned by CQ BioPower Producers, the plant will be fired by wood waste acquired from a variety of local sources.READ MORE
