EPA proposal classifies wood fuel from construction, demolition On March 27, the U.S. EPA released a proposed rule to amend its Non-Hazardous Secondary Materials. Geechee Energy announces Georgia pellet project South Carolina-based Geechee Energy LLC has announced plans to build a 360,000-metric-ton-per-year pellet plant near Millen, Ga. The proposed Ogeechee River Pellet Mill project is scheduled to break ground later this year. READ MORE SHARE
Waste Management, Ventech, NRG and Velocys form joint venture Waste Management Inc., Ventech Engineers International LLC, NRG Energy Inc. and Velocys plc have formed a joint venture to produce renewable fuels and chemicals from biogas and natural gas using smaller-scale gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology. Fiberight begins construction of waste processing facility Waste-to-energy firm Fiberight LLC is beginning construction of its waste processing facility in Marion, Iowa. Enel Green Power, SECI Energia to develop 30 MW plant in Italy Enel Green Power and SECI Energia introduced a project to construct a new Powercrop biomass plant in the town of Russi, Italy, near Ravenna. Biofuel trade organizations ask for tax incentive extensions On March 24, a group of biofuel trade organizations sent a letter to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and Ranking Member Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, encouraging extension of critical advanced biofuel tax incentives. BP sustainability report highlights biofuel projects BP has released its 2013 sustainability report, announcing it has fulfilled its 2005 commitment to invest $8 billion in alternative energy by 2015 two years early. Sundog Energy installs biomass boiler at 17th century farm Sundog Energy has installed a 24-kW biomass boiler at Glencoyne Farm, a portion of which dates to 1629, in the western U.K. The Palazzetti CT24 biomass boiler, which replaces an aging oil-fired boiler, operates at 90.72 percent efficiency.
